Saffron might save your eyesight
Saffron is a spice which can prevent macular degeneration and effectively improve your eyesight. It is a natural food flavoring collected from the red stamens of saffron crocus which is also used as a coloring agent and natural remedy – the spice can treat over 90 diseases. The health benefits of saffron are due to the presence of two important carotenoids.
According to a recent study, taking a 20 mg. supplement of saffron every day for 3 months can improve your retinal function and visual acuity. Professor Silvia Bisti who carried out the research says that saffron may be the natural answer for macular degeneration and weak eyesight. “Saffron appears to affect genes that regulate the fatty-acid content of the cell membrane, and this makes the vision cells tougher and more resilient,” she says, and adds that the patients in the study experienced better vision after taking only one saffron pill.
But, how much saffron should you take? According to research, only 20 mg. of high quality saffron per day should be enough to significantly improve your eyesight.
